History

History

Family owned and growing for 40 years. Sasco has become one of the largest electrical contractors in British Columbia by building and developing long-lasting, meaningful relationships with our customers, team, and communities.

1985—1995

Sasco is founded by Hank Paquin who is soon joined by Brian Hirakida. Operating in the basement of a prominent office building in downtown Vancouver, the roots of a service and relationship-based contractor are planted.

A later move to a storefront location on Kingsway at Victoria gives the company room to grow. By this time, Sasco is established as not only a full-service electrical contractor, but also one of the select electrical contractors performing work for many of Vancouver’s premier building owners, operators, and design-build firms.

The location on Kingsway is fondly remembered as being the place where some of Sasco’s “original superstar apprentices” joined the company – Jeff Bedry, Garett Steen, and Dave Birtles – some of whom made their stamp as principals in the company.

More growth and another move, this time to Burnaby and new headquarters on Norland Ave.

These years see significant change in the Sasco team with apprentices becoming foremen, estimators and project managers coming onboard, and new systems and processes fueling growth.

Reid Hockins joins the team as an apprentice and starts his journey to becoming a principal. Craig Paquin – Hank’s son who grew up on job sites – joins Sasco after completing his studies at Simon Fraser University.

A change in leadership. After the birth of his third grandchild, Hank decides to retire. Brian forges forward with Craig who had already become a principal. Sasco keeps growing and expands into BC’s Interior with the opening of the Kamloops Branch.

A third branch opens in Victoria to service customers on Vancouver Island (we were tired of saying no!) and another round of succession begins. With Brian’s retirement, a group of key Sasco employees join the leadership team – Jeff, Garett, Dave, and Reid.

President

Craig Paquin

With over 23 years experience in the electrical industry and the last 13 as President of Sasco, Craig has overseen the growth and evolution of a 10-person company into a multi-disciplined, full-service electrical contractor employing more than 200 people. Craig enjoys spending time with his two teenage boys, playing hockey, chasing the dog, skiing, and (most importantly) traveling.

Jeff Bedry

Jeff Bedry has over 30 years experience in the electrical industry. He began with Sasco as a foreman in 1992 and is now Vice President of Field Operations and a Principal. Jeff has proudly delivered hundreds of Sasco projects.
VP - General Manager

Reid Hockin

Reid Hockin has over 20 years experience in the electrical construction industry, and has been with Sasco since 2000. Reid has been the Vice President - General Manager since 2022, overseeing the general operations of the business, including leading and managing divisions to meet strategic and financial goals. Prior to being promoted to VP, Reid led the Fire Alarm Division for 6 years.

Amanda Koning

Amanda holds both her CPA and CPHR. She manages the Sasco finance team and ensures a safe working environment for staff and customers in collaboration with Sasco’s leaders and team members.
VP Business Development

Chris Findlater

Chris is an accomplished and respected individual with over 30 years experience in the electrical construction industry. He has a proven track record of delivering safe, profitable projects with a strategic approach. Chris joined Sasco in 2021 and brought with him strong leadership and mentorship skills.

Community Impact

The Sasco Shares program is an opportunity for us to give back to the communities we live and work in by providing donations and volunteer hours directly to those who need them.

Sasco Shares supports:

  • Families coping with residential damage due to fire or natural disaster
  • People whose mobility has been impacted by illness or accident
  • Colleagues affected by life’s challenges
  • Sasco is also a proud sponsor of the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, BC Children’s Hospital, and Family Services. We also give back to local sports teams, events, and community outreach programs.

Safety Commitment

Sasco has been COR Certified by WorkSafeBC for more than 15 years and was one of the first electrical contractors in the province to receive certification. This achievement is a testament to our safety policies, practices, and procedures and a source of pride for our team. Creating a culture of safety is much easier when you employ people who care about each other.
